The Broadfield Pub Review

The Broadfield Pub in Sheffield is a place I have been many times in my life. My family often visits throughout the year and have also made it an annual tradition to go for their fantastic Christmas dinner on the 27th of December to see the season out. I wanted to review this place that has been the source of many a tasty meal and recommend it to others who live or want to visit Sheffield as I think it is truly one of the best possible examples of how delicious British food can be when done correctly. Also for my beer lovers, this pub specialises in craft beers and frequently rotates and features new guest beers throughout the year.  My favourite thing to get when I come to The Broadfield is a pie. Overall, I would say I am generally not a huge pie lover, I don’t dislike them but unless they are made by my mother I could take them or leave them. However it is my own personal ritual that I absolutely have to have a pie when I come here (except for at Christmas) Usually I opt for some

Harvey Nichols: Fourth Floor Brasserie Leeds Review

Chic and sleek is the first thing I thought as I walked into the Harvey Nichols’ Fourth Floor Brasserie. The space is big and bright, with white and gold interior complete with an added flare from the bright blue tiled open kitchen. I had heard great things about the food here and was very excited to try it out for myself. I chose to have the set menu which includes 3 courses and a cocktail, all for just £35. Sounds like a good deal to me!

I have attached a copy of the menu below, while it’s not the exact same one that I chose from, it’s pretty similar and gives you a good idea of what sort of thing you can expect here. There are more menus available online if a set menu isn’t something that appeals to you.

Spiced Marinated Mozzarella: pea and spinach salad, mint jelly, crispy sourdough and dressing

Light, refreshing and crisp I found this dish to be a great way to kick off the meal. The mozzarella was full of flavour and had a pleasant creamy taste that complimented the other features well. The mint jelly added an interesting textural component which I also really
enjoyed.

Truffle Mac and Cheese: roasted cauliflower, charred fennel, crispy kale, balsamic, spiced tomato dressing

As someone who loves cheese, this option was a no brainer for me. The mac and cheese was cheesy without being cloying and lacking nuance. The slightly burned top was amazing and added such a nice smoky flavour to the dish and the veggies also brought in another level of intrigue. Fennel is not a vegetable I usually gravitate towards but I really enjoyed it in this ensemble.

Buttermilk Panna Cotta: candied cornflakes, peach slice, lemon curd, peach and champagne sorbet

The perfect way to end the meal was with this panna cotta, one of my all time favourite desserts. Harvey Nichols have elevated the simple dish by creating it with buttermilk adding a slight sourness similar to that of Greek yoghurt or creme fraiche. The candied corn flakes were nice and added a nice crunch, although after a while my mouth did get a little sore from all the chewing. Despite that, the peach and champagne sorbet was truly to die for, incredibly peachy and so so refreshing. I would definitely just eat an entire bowl of that.

During my visit both the cocktails that are included on the set menu were tequila based. This is a spirit that I am very unfamiliar with and having heard numerous horror stories on what it is capable of I have generally steered clear of it until now. I decided to pick the paloma as it contained other fruity elements. I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the drink all though I did have a headache afterwards. If you're someone who regularly drinks and enjoys tequila I’m sure you would’ve enjoyed it even more than I did.

The set menu here is seasonal and ever changing but from what I have heard, always delicious.  I definitely hope to be back another day to enjoy more of the delicious food that is being created here.
